Plan Now for March 2022 H-1B Registrations

January 18, 2022

For H-1B petitions subject to the Fiscal Year 2023 H-1B quota, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) will again use its electronic registration system to randomly select which employers are eligible to file an H-1B petition for a specified worker.

Under this process, which was implemented by USCIS in 2020, employers must complete an online registration form during a specified registration period in March. The registration requires information about the employer and each worker. In 2021, the USCIS set the registration period from March 9, 2021, to March 25, 2021. The USCIS has yet to set the registration dates for March 2022.

Once the registration period ends, USCIS will run a randomized selection process on the submitted electronic registrations and notify those employers who were selected. Selected employers will be given a 90-day period to file their H-1B petition starting in April.

If insufficient H-1B petitions are received by USCIS from the initial registration to reach the yearly quota, USCIS may conduct a second or third round of lottery selections.

Because of the short window of opportunity to submit an H-1B registration, it is important for employers to determine now which individuals will need H-1B sponsorship. For more regarding the H-1B visa, please see our website.
