Her article, “Maintaining Your Value With a Yes: Tips for Lawyers on the Rise,” recognizes that sometimes it feels like there is an unwritten rule that when a request comes in, the default answer is, “Yes.” It is the answer that is encouraged. Yet occasionally, there are other tasks piling up on the desk, and an alternate solution is to provide other courses of action to the requesting attorney, even if it is not completing the assignment yourself. This type of approach is an important quality to integrate into a young lawyer’s working career. When managing assignments and projects, it is also important to manage the relationships with whom the projects and assignments are being assigned and continue to deliver on being an asset.
