Steven J. Dickinson

Of Counsel
Transatlantic Practice Vice Chair

Steven J. Dickinson helps companies’ structure and execute complex business transactions with clarity, efficiency, and cultural awareness, whether they’re operating across the U.S. or expanding internationally. Over the course of Steve’s career, he has advised clients on M&A, joint ventures, commercial agreements, market entry strategies, entity formation, and regulatory compliance—both in the U.S. and in markets around the world.

Cross-border success isn’t just about drafting the right contract—it’s about understanding how different markets think, negotiate, and enforce agreements. Steve helps his clients anticipate cultural, legal, and operational nuances that don’t show up in the term sheet but can make or break a deal.

From global expansion strategies to U.S. market entry support, he regularly advises international companies expanding into the U.S., U.S. companies acquiring or investing overseas, domestic businesses entering foreign markets, and technology companies navigating cross-border IP and data regulations. His goal is to help clients avoid costly missteps, manage risk, and seize international opportunities with confidence.

Whether it’s a U.S. company acquiring a domestic or foreign business, an international company entering the U.S. market, or a Midwest manufacturer launching operations abroad, Steve offers more than legal advice—Steve brings a practical understanding of how business goals, legal frameworks, and cultural expectations intersect across industries and borders.

Steve is deeply engaged in Minnesota’s international business ecosystem. He serves on the board of Global Minnesota, is a member of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Minnesota District Export Council, appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, and frequently mentors and advises companies pursuing global growth. Steve also serves as the Vice Chair of Clark Hill’s Transatlantic Practice.

Steve has joined dozens of trade missions with state leaders, presented and established connections with skilled attorneys at international legal conferences, and hosted diplomatic delegations from around the world. These relationships help his clients access on-the-ground support and trusted legal counsel in foreign jurisdictions when and where they need it.
