Her practice includes guiding clients through legal and regulatory requirements under the Revised School Code, the Freedom of Information Act, the Open Meetings Act, the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, and other laws governing public bodies. Mary has particular experience handling Title IX matters, advising clients through every stage of the grievance process. As a skilled investigator, she approaches sensitive and complex matters with thoughtfulness, thoroughness, and meticulous attention to detail.
In addition to resolving legal issues, Mary partners with clients to proactively minimize risk and promote compliance. She regularly provides professional development training for school districts and is a frequent speaker on education law topics across Michigan. Her presentations have included programs for the Michigan Association of School Boards, Michigan School Business Officials, the Michigan Association of School Personnel Administrators, the Michigan Association of Administrators of Special Education, and other education organizations.
