Ann VanderLaan represents clients in education and labor and employment law matters. She assists charter schools in all phases of operations including organizational issues, authorization, re-authorization, negotiating contractual agreements with educational service providers and other third-party vendors for management, operations, and services. Ann also works with schools to develop board policies and procedures, parent/student handbooks, advises on student discipline matters, and provides general advice and counsel. Ann works closely with a virtual (cyber) school and is intimately involved in the unique opportunities and experiences that arise in the virtual world.

Ann has extensive experience in the areas of employment discrimination, harassment, wrongful discharge, and civil rights claims in the public and private sector. Ann has conducted numerous workplace investigations in these areas and has handled discrimination charges before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, and the Office of Civil Rights.

Ann is honored to serve on the Oakland County Arts Institute Authority, which was created to support the Detroit Institute of Arts and promote arts in education and the community.
