Karl “Eddie” Fornell is a Senior Attorney with the Business Litigation Practice Group in Clark Hill’s Detroit Office.
With a background in public service and a history with family-owned businesses, Eddie knows the ins and outs of the court system and the administrative branches of Michigan government. He also understands the demands placed on small business owners and managers. His significant know-how means that his clients spend less time figuring out how to get things done—freeing them up to focus on their strategic goals and targets.
Prior to joining Clark Hill, Eddie served as a Judicial Attorney for the Honorable Judge Lita M. Popke in the Business Court for the 3rd Circuit of Michigan. Eddie’s experience allows him to speak to the needs of the court as well as the needs of his clients, leading to more streamlined judicial appearances. He zealously represents his clients before the bench, and his strong relationships within the halls of Michigan’s Third Circuit allow him to truly understand how to best advocate on his clients’ behalf.
Eddie attended the University of Notre Dame Law School under a fellowship and obtained his law degree with an academic focus on Business and Commercial Litigation. He was a member of the University of Notre Dame Business Law Club. While in law school, Eddie worked as a research assistant for Professor Paolo Carozza, editing articles and researching the development of international law. In his third year of law school, Eddie’s Compendium of International Treaties was published by the Notre Dame Law School library. In the University of Notre Dame’s tradition of public service, Eddie also worked in the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office under a grant from the University’s Public Service Initiative.
Prior to law school, Eddie attended Albion College and obtained a BA in Philosophy. While an undergrad, he spent eight months studying law and philosophy at the University of Queensland in Queensland, Australia.
Although he was born in Ann Arbor, Eddie is a dual citizen of both the US and Sweden. He considers himself to be both a Michigander and a Swede at heart, having spent a considerable amount of his childhood living in both countries. He is an avid tennis player and golfer. He played on Albion’s Varsity Tennis Team for four years and was the first player in Michigan history to win four division one high school state tennis championships. He currently holds the record for the second longest winning streak in Michigan high school tennis history. Eddie also enjoys traveling, cooking, and playing a variety of instruments.
