John Alfs protects the interests of business owners as general counsel to entrepreneurs involved in many markets, including automotive supply and retail, venture capital, information technology and management, and commercial insurance and benefits.
John consults with business owners and decision makers with respect to merger and acquisition opportunities, strategic planning, business succession, employee matters, protection of confidentiality and competitive rights as well as risk analysis and reduction.
John represents the interests of automobile dealers. His work with auto dealers includes serving as general counsel to the dealership owners, counseling them on all aspects of their operations, including business planning, acquisition opportunities, factory disputes, employment issues, state, federal and administrative compliance, business contract negotiation, products liability and commercial litigation.
As lead trial counsel in state and federal courts in Michigan and elsewhere, as well as in numerous arbitration tribunals, John defends his clients’ rights in cases involving contract disputes, premises liability and personal injury claims, products liability, covenants not to compete, and shareholder claims as well as disputes arising from the purchase and sale of businesses. When clients’ rights have been threatened, John pursues claims on their behalf for contract breaches, professional liability, supplier disputes and enforcement of restrictive covenants. Particularly sensitive to the risks and costs of litigation to business owners and closely held entities, John proactively counsels firm clients to pursue and defend claims in a manner tailored uniquely to accomplish the required goal.
