Henry T. French, Jr. counsels Bermudian, U.S., and European insurers and reinsurers with respect to North American general and professional liability risks and claims, claims handling, and designing effective corporate compliance programs.
Henry has gained broad experience and knowledge working as a senior lawyer for publicly traded insurance and reinsurance companies operating in the U.S., Bermuda, London, and European markets. He has served in various in-house roles, including General Counsel of business units, Head of Litigation, Head of Claims, Compliance Director, and Head of Operational Risk. As in-house counsel, Henry managed significant litigation, arbitrations, and bad faith lawsuits. He also co-led the risk management team responsible for purchasing corporate professional liability insurance, including directors and officers, errors and omissions, and cyber insurance coverages.
Henry has served as an expert witness in U.S. lawsuits concerning insurance claims handling standards and in a private arbitration on issues related to the Bermuda market and the Bermuda excess liability form. He is an ARIAS certified arbitrator and trained mediator.
Henry’s practice includes preparation of coverage opinions in individual cases, drafting of reservation of rights letters and declination letters, and providing advice during the claims handling process. He also advises on corporate compliance issues, including designing effective compliance programs.
