Drew has worked on water law matters in Colorado through the Environmental Law Clinic at the University of Denver, where he engaged directly with clients and opposing counsel while practicing within Colorado’s water court system. He has experience with conditional water rights, ditch incorporation, settlement negotiations, historical use and quantification of water rights, and Colorado’s instream flow program. He has also conducted extensive research on groundwater regulation through the role of interstate groundwater compacts, and potential federal regulatory approaches to groundwater governance. In addition, Drew’s time as a Managing Editor for the Water Law Review at the University of Denver bolstered his understanding of the emerging landscapes clients may face in water and natural resource management.
His legal experience also includes supporting federal environmental lands management and associated administrative regulation matters. Drew interned at the 2nd Judicial District Court in Denver and assisted with matters involving civil procedure, administrative law, property law, contract disputes, and tort issues, broadening his ability to evaluate complex legal questions and develop clear, practical analyses.
Before law school, Drew worked as an environmental scientist on remediation and monitoring projects throughout Colorado and neighboring states. In that role, he supported environmental investigations, data collection & analysis, regulatory documentation, and project implementation efforts. He is especially familiar with groundwater remediation and monitoring of metals, VOCs, SVOCs, and petroleum hydrocarbons. This experience provides firsthand insight into the complexities of environmental regulatory compliance, site assessment, and the operational challenges faced by businesses, landowners, and project stakeholders.
