October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month – It’s a Good Time to Update Your Cybersecurity Information Resources

October 20, 2023

This month is the 20th annual Cybersecurity Awareness Month, cosponsored by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency (CISA) and the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA). This year’s theme, “Secure Our World,” focuses on how individuals, families, and small to medium-sized businesses can implement changes that will benefit everyone when online or using connected devices.

For this month, CISA and NCA, along with other agencies and cybersecurity groups, have published new materials consistent with the theme. They are valuable resources for updating cybersecurity programs, including training.

This year’s campaign includes “Four Easy Ways to Stay Safe Online,” including:

  1. Use Strong Passwords and a Password Manager
  2. Turn on Multifactor Authentication
  3. Recognize and Report Phishing
  4. Update Software

CISA’s materials include Tip Sheets, “Secure Yourself & Your Family,” “Secure Your Business,” and “Secure Your Products.”

NCA, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the Center for Internet Security (CIS), and the SANS Institute have published similar information for the month.

These materials are useful resources for updating cybersecurity programs, including training, and educating users about cybersecurity at home.
