Webinar: Special Education Bootcamp - Compliance Foundations Under IDEA

September 22, 2025
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM ET

Whether you are new to special education leadership or looking to reinforce your foundational knowledge, this interactive webinar will provide a comprehensive overview of the core compliance requirements under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Designed for school leaders who are responsible for ensuring legally sound practices, this session will offer practical tools and strategies to help participants navigate common procedural and substantive pitfalls, support sound decision-making, and build a compliant and student-centered special education program.

Navigating the complexities of special education law requires more than just familiarity with legal texts—it demands the ability to apply that knowledge in real-world school settings. This webinar will address recurring issues that often challenge districts and walk away with clear, proactive approaches to help avoid costly mistakes. At the first session in a larger webinar series planned for the 2025–2026 school year, we will establish the legal groundwork necessary to effectively engage with upcoming topics such as Least Restrictive Environment (LRE), discipline, and IEP development.

This session will be led by Jordan Bullinger and Vickie Coe, experienced education attorneys with Clark Hill’s Education Law Group. Together, they bring extensive experience representing school districts in special education and disability law matters, as well as training educators and administrators across Michigan. Their combined legal insight and practical guidance will help participants strengthen their understanding and confidently lead legally compliant, student-focused special education programs.

Registration fees are $25 per person for Clark Hill retainer clients and $45 per person for all others.

Critical Risk Mitigation Provisions for Design Contracts — Part 1: Waiver of Consequential Damages

An essential element of architect and engineer contracts with their clients is the treatment of risk sharing between the parties. Design professionals who are typically simply providing services for a fee, and who are not investors who will share in the profits of a successful project, can ill-afford to expose themselves to unlimited liability for negligent errors and omissions in the performance of their services. Architects and engineers would argue that it is fundamentally unfair to expose them to unlimited downside risk when they do not directly participate in the upside profit potential of the projects they design. Owners and developers would counter that this is why design professionals carry professional liability insurance. But even simple design errors can lead to liability that is many times greater than the amount of such insurance.
