Michael Yu

Senior Attorney

Michael Yu helps multinational corporations navigate U.S. business and employment-based immigration matters, from individual visa sponsorships to broader corporate immigration programs. His practice includes H-1B, E-3, TN, L-1, O-1, F-1 OPT, and E-2 matters, as well as PERM labor certifications, I-140 immigrant petitions, adjustment of status, and consular processing. Michael works closely with corporate executives, in-house counsel, human resources professionals, and managers to develop short- and long-term immigration strategies that account for workforce needs, employee stability, regulatory requirements, and business risk.

Beyond individual immigration matters, Michael supports employers in building and managing effective corporate immigration and global mobility programs. He advises on immigration policies and operational standards, cross-border scenarios, and process improvements. He also trains business stakeholders on immigration compliance, Form I-9 best practices, employment authorization, I-94 issues, document retention, and changes in government policy and enforcement.

Michael brings an operations-focused perspective to high-volume and complex immigration portfolios. His experience includes managing and developing legal teams, coordinating attorneys and paralegals, building standard operating procedures and workflows, and using immigration case-management technology and tracking systems to improve processes. This combination of legal counseling, program management, and technology helps him consider not only the requirements of an individual immigration matter but also the operational demands of an employer’s broader workforce strategy.

Before focusing his practice on corporate immigration, Michael worked on immigration filings involving employment authorization and permanent residence and researched matters involving CBP seizures, asylum, and administrative appeals. During law school, he also represented low-income immigration clients under faculty supervision through the Wayne State Asylum and Immigration Law Clinic.
