Matthew Mejia is a seasoned litigator with experience representing clients in a wide range of complex commercial, privacy and technology disputes.  Matt’s experience includes defending businesses in class actions and other claims related to data collection and use, including online tracking (CIPA/wiretap/VPPA/ECPA), right to publicity (RPA) biometrics (BIPA) and data breach. Matt also represents businesses in contract disputes, including in the technology space.   Matt supports the Firm’s Privacy, Cyber and Technology litigation team.

Matt has an extensive Federal Court practice, including clerkships with U.S. District Judge Michael M. Anello and U.S. Magistrate Judge Bernard G. Skomal in the Southern District of California. In those roles, he worked across all phases of civil and criminal litigation, including pretrial motion practice, jury selection, evidentiary issues, and trial management. Matt prepared draft orders on dispositive and non-dispositive motions and reports and recommendations for the Court, including motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, motions in limine, and Daubert motions. He also supported case management efforts, including scheduling and resolving discovery disputes across a wide range of matters.

Matt also has experience litigating intellectual property matters nationwide, including trade secret, patent, trademark, trade dress, and copyright disputes. Matt has prosecuted federal trademark applications before the USPTO, monitored and enforced against online infringement, and reviewed and negotiated IP licensing and related agreements to protect clients’ rights and business objectives. His practice includes breach of contract and complex business tort disputes arising out of commercial matters.

Additionally, Matt has experience advising clients in the music and sports industries on intellectual property, licensing, and contract issues, as well as advising on legal matters surrounding Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities.
