September 9, 2019

Anthony P. Campau Brings Government and In-House Experience

Clark Hill today announced that Anthony P. Campau, former Chief of Staff and Counselor in the U.S. Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) within the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), has joined its Government & Public Affairs Practice as Director of Government Regulation in Washington, D.C., and Detroit, Michigan.

“Anthony’s substantive knowledge and experience in working to develop and reform regulations across a wide array of economic sectors gives Clark Hill unique insight into how best to effect meaningful and constructive change in federal regulatory policy for large, mid-size, and small businesses,” said Kevin F. Kelly, Leader of the firm’s Government & Public Affairs Practice. “We expect his intimate knowledge of policy making from his work as OIRA Chief of Staff will enable us to help the firm’s clients in a way that few firms at the Federal level can offer.”

Through his service at OIRA, as well as on the OMB beachhead team and Trump Presidential Transition Team, Campau has contributed significantly to numerous high-profile regulatory, information, tax, and privacy policy developments across a wide range of economic sectors.

Kelly further noted that, “Anthony’s arrival also signals Clark Hill’s desire to consolidate its federal regulatory practice in Government and Public Affairs and continues the firm’s efforts to hire strong subject matter experts with deep and lasting relationships with key federal decision makers. Given Clark Hill’s footprint in eleven states and a growing international practice, we are delighted Anthony is available as an important asset for the firm’s clients.”

Campau also served as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Neomi Rao on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, whose jurisdiction includes most federal departments and agencies and the U.S. Congress. The D.C. Circuit is known well for its role in reviewing complex litigation over federal regulations and other agency actions.

“I am excited to join the world-class team at Clark Hill,” said Campau. “The firm is Washington-savvy and Midwest-sensible. They understand the importance and complexities of the regulatory environment, and they are committed to helping clients to successfully navigate and operate within it. I look forward to building on that strength and bringing a complementary set of prior experiences to help clients manage the broad and dynamic range of high-stakes regulatory issues they face each day.”

Prior to his time in the Executive and Judicial Branches, Campau spent more than eight years in a variety of roles at The Heritage Foundation. In addition, Campau previously served as Associate General Counsel and Assistant Secretary of the Board of Trustees at a highly regulated educational institution, where he advised on a wide range of complex regulatory and compliance matters, corporate governance, and transactions.

Campau earned his J.D and LL.M. in Securities and Financial Regulation from the Georgetown University Law Center. He is a Michigan native who is excited to help his home state’s largest law firm continue to expand and provide best-in-class service to clients around the world.

“Anthony has vast knowledge about the inner workings of the current administration and the broader federal rulemaking and policy landscape,” said Thomas Ragland, Member-in-Charge of Clark Hill’s Washington, D.C., office. “The combination of his government experience and in-house perspective will benefit all our clients trying to effect change impacting various industries in the nation’s Capital. We welcome him aboard.”

From advising clients on specific legislation and regulation at all levels of government to giving industry and nonprofits a voice in implementing broad, sweeping actions by the federal government, Clark Hill’s bipartisan Government & Public Affairs Practice provides detailed legislative, policy and regulatory insights on issues directly affecting clients in the context of broader geopolitical and market forces. Its practice activities include legislative and regulatory advocacy, political law, public contracting and regulatory affairs.
