Senior attorney Seta Sarabekian represents companies and individuals in commercial litigation matters involving contractual disputes, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, defamation, business interference, and misappropriation of trade secrets.
In a Q&A with Seta, she discusses what she likes most about her practice, trends she’s seeing in litigation, and how she builds trust with clients.
What do you enjoy most about representing clients in disputes?
I enjoy helping clients navigate some of the most challenging situations their businesses face and developing strategies that achieve meaningful results. Every dispute presents unique legal, business, and practical considerations, and I find it rewarding to partner with clients to understand their objectives and advocate for their interests. Whether resolving a matter efficiently or successfully litigating a case through trial, my goal is always to help clients move forward with confidence.
What kind of litigation trends are you seeing right now?
Clients are increasingly focused on managing legal risk proactively rather than simply reacting to disputes after they arise. Companies want practical counsel that helps them evaluate exposure early, control costs, and make informed business decisions. We are also seeing technology play a larger role in litigation, from electronic discovery to the growing use of artificial intelligence, which creates both opportunities and new challenges for businesses. As a result, organizations are placing greater value on strategic legal partners who understand both the legal and business implications of a dispute.
How do you guide clients through litigation while also helping them stay focused on their broader business objectives?
I start by understanding what success looks like for the client. While litigation is important, it is often just one part of a larger business strategy. My role is to help clients evaluate legal risks, identify practical solutions, and make decisions that support their long-term goals. By maintaining open communication and providing clear, actionable advice, I help clients stay focused on running their businesses while we manage the legal challenges.
How do you build trust with clients?
Trust begins with communication and consistency. Clients want to know that their attorney understands their business, is responsive to their concerns, and is providing straightforward advice. I make it a priority to keep clients informed, explain complex issues in practical terms, and involve them in key strategic decisions. I have found that, over time, transparency and collaboration help build strong relationships and confidence in the representation.
What steps can companies take to protect themselves from litigation?
The most effective approach is to be proactive. Companies should regularly review their policies, contracts, and business practices, invest in employee training, and address potential issues before they become larger problems. Just as important is fostering a culture of compliance and accountability within the organization. While no company can eliminate litigation risk entirely, taking preventative measures can significantly reduce exposure and better position a business if a dispute arises.
