Clark Hill’s Steven Richman Honored by ABA’s International Law Section

May 30, 2023

Clark Hill Member Steven Richman received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Bar Association’s International Law Section on May 4.

Richman was honored during the Section’s annual spring conference. He had spoken earlier that day on ethical issues in business and human rights for attorneys.

“Having been involved with the International Law Section for much of my career, I’m delighted and honored to receive this award,” Richman said. “The Section has been a great resource of knowledge and support, and having chaired it in 2017-2018 was a professional milestone. It is a close-knit international community that is a great benefit for its community of attorneys.

In addition to being a former chair of the then 17,000-18,000 member Section, Richman serves as one of its delegates to the ABA House of Delegates and is the ABA Representative to the United Nations. He also serves as the ABA representative to the International Bar Association and the International Association of Lawyers (UIA). He chairs the ABA’s Joint Editorial Board for International Law, and last year was awarded the Section’s Leonard J. Theberge Award for Private International Law.

Richman practices domestic and international commercial law, including mediation, litigation, arbitration, and appellate work, including distributorships, intellectual property, agency, art and photography law, professional responsibility, and contracts.

Long Saga of Colorado AI Act Appears to Have Come to Close With Revised Law

Ever since its initial passage into law in 2024, the Colorado AI Act has been a lightning rod for controversy and calls for change. Over the ensuing two years, multiple attempts to amend the law were floated and proposed by consumer and industry groups. The implementation of the law itself was delayed several times to allow for such changes, with Governor Jared Polis calling a special session of the legislature last August to specifically address potential changes. All of those attempts appear to have culminated in Senate Bill 189 having passed both the Colorado House (57-6) and Senate (34-1) this week. The bill next heads to the desk of Governor Jared Polis where it is expected to be signed into law and to take effect as of January of 2027.
