Clark Hill PLC Adds Estate Planning Attorney John T. Klees

April 28, 2020

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Clark Hill PLC has announced the addition of John T. Klees as Senior Counsel in its Grand Rapids office in the Tax & Estate Planning practice group.

John helps individuals and families organize their affairs to secure their business and/or nest-egg assets for future generations. Serving a diverse client base throughout the state of Michigan, John develops and implements wealth preservation strategies, asset protection plans, business succession plans, wills and trusts, and advanced estate and gift tax strategies in such a way as to minimize difficulties, taxes, and expenses.

John’s primary emphasis is in pre-death business and estate/succession planning, to help clients and their families avoid disputes and litigation down the road. He also assists surviving family members in post-death estate and trust administration, again with an emphasis to avoid disputes and litigation. But when disputes are unavoidable, John represents surviving family members, in their fiduciary capacity (as trustee) or as beneficiaries, to ensure that good, fair and “right” results are obtained in litigation.

“We are beyond excited to have John join our Grand Rapids office. With over 30 years of experience, John's level of knowledge in estate planning will highly benefit the firm's clients and area of practice,” commented Ingrid Jensen, Member-in-Charge of Clark Hill’s Grand Rapids office.

John has devoted his entire career to staying on the cutting edge of the law related to estate planning and administration. This dedication began in law school, when he earned a Masters of Law in Taxation from New York University School of Law, with a focus on estate/gift taxes, in addition to the traditional J.D. law degree. This vantage point offers John the ability to see opportunities that others miss. John does not just "dabble" in estate planning (and related areas) — he specializes in it.
