Clark Hill Attorney Douglas Folk to report on “Threats to Professional Licensure and How to Defeat Them,” at American Council of Engineering Companies Fall National Conference
PHOENIX, AZ – Clark Hill attorney Douglas Folk will report on “Threats to Professional Licensure and How to Defeat Them,” to the American Council of Engineering Companies’ National Board of Directors at its Fall National Conference on October 19, 2016 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Folk, Legal Counsel to ACEC Arizona, former chair of the ACEC Legal Counsel Forum, and member of the ACEC Risk Management Committee, will discuss the recent increase in state legislative efforts to roll back or undermine professional registration boards for engineers and other design professionals in Arizona and other states across the US. He will address the risk to public health, safety, and welfare posed by initiatives to improve competition and efficiency in state government.
Over the past century, coordinated state licensure for professional engineers and other technical professions have protected the public while facilitating trade and commerce. In recent years, a number of states including Arizona and Indiana have tried to undermine or remove licensure requirements by calling them unnecessary barriers to free competition. Folk’s presentation will address the need for continued licensure and regulation of professional services.
