Nicholas Kalin works on surety, coverage, and construction contract cases and advises clients throughout litigation, transactional, and general commercial matters.

Nicholas represents a wide range of corporate clients in the surety, insurance, construction, and transportation industries, handling all areas of litigation and transactional law. This includes working with surety companies, project owners, contractors, designers, and engineers, among others. He assists clients with payment and performance bond claims, contract claims, construction design issues, project management disputes, and all aspects of complex commercial litigation. His practice emphasizes a strong client-centered focus on delivering results, and he is a skilled advisor and advocate.

As an experienced professional engineer, Nicholas excels at analyzing technical documents and drawings, enabling his clients to benefit from over twenty years of engineering experience in addition to his legal background. Prior to law school, Nicholas worked as a civil engineer and construction project manager, designing and managing multi-million-dollar federal projects throughout the country. He then worked as a patent agent, and following law school, as a patent attorney in Washington D.C., engaged in complex intellectual property litigation. All this experience enables him to think critically about highly technical legal issues and provide valuable insight throughout cases requiring engineering analysis. This background of law and engineering provides Nicholas a unique able to identify issues for clients.

Nicholas is also a veteran military officer. During his service, he drafted contracts and federal legislation, developed policy strategy, directed and mediated multi-disciplinary teams, saved over 2,000 lives at sea, and commanded operational military units. These experiences provide valuable communication and leadership skills that benefit his clients throughout all phases of litigation.
