Laurie N. Stayton
Laurie Stayton is a trial lawyer with considerable experience handling civil litigation matters, including catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death, construction defect, transportation, contract, subrogation, professional liability, toxic tort, premise and product liability, and public entity cases. Laurie also handles all areas of labor and employment law including handling litigation and claims of wrongful termination, retaliation, discrimination, harassment, wage and hour, and violations of civil rights. Laurie is also a member of Clark Hill's construction and design law team, which includes representing design professionals, contractors and owners, among others, in litigation matters.
Laurie is a zealous litigator who has successfully tried numerous jury trials through verdict, including obtaining several unanimous defense verdicts in multiple-million dollar exposure cases and recovery of hundreds of thousands of dollars in costs and attorney fees for defense clients. Laurie has also had particular success in her federal and state law and motion practice, including prevailing on demurrers, Anti-SLAPP motions, motions for summary judgment, motions for nonsuit, and motions for directed verdict. In addition to Laurie's extensive pre-trial and trial experience, she has served as primary counsel on multiple appeals, handling matters from initial notice to final argument.
Laurie is a native Californian and attended California State University, Chico, where she graduated with highest honors with degrees in Political Science and Business Administration. She received her J.D. from the University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where she served as the Managing Editor and Staff Comment Writer for The Transnational Lawyer, McGeorge Law Journal. Laurie also participated in an International Studies Program in Salzburg, Austria, which included taking a course co-taught by Anthony M. Kennedy, Justice of the United States Supreme Court.
Outside the office, Laurie enjoys scuba diving, hiking, the theater, and traveling off the beaten path.
