Derek H. Ross is part of the Government & Regulatory Affairs group, helping political campaigns, PACs, and other organizations navigate the complex areas of federal campaign finance laws and regulations, gift and ethics rules, and lobbying compliance. Derek also assists corporate and non-profit entities interacting with the Executive and Legislative Branches to pursue positive budgetary or policy outcomes.
Before joining Clark Hill, Derek worked as an attorney in the Enforcement Division of the General Counsel’s Office at the Federal Election Commission, where he investigated alleged violations of federal campaign finance laws and advised the Commission on a variety of legal issues.
Prior to the FEC, Derek was an associate at a prestigious law firm in Oklahoma City, where his practice areas included political law, white collar criminal defense, employment law, and commercial litigation. While practicing in Oklahoma, Derek advised state and federal campaigns, PACs, and government officials on the legal challenges they faced. Derek also clerked for the Honorable Joe Heaton in the United States District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma.
Before attending law school, Derek served as a legislative aide to Congressman Tom Cole, working in areas including banking, health care, appropriations, and natural resources.
Derek received his J.D. in 2013 from the University of Oklahoma College of Law, where he served as the Managing Editor of the American Indian Law Review. During that time, he clerked for the Republican National Committee and the Oklahoma Republican Party. Derek also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma.
