David I. Weissman is a Senior Counsel in Clark Hill’s Labor & Employment Practice Group. David concentrates his practice on the representation of management in employment law matters, and is experienced in all aspects of employment litigation in federal and state courts. He also advises clients on administrative agency proceedings, ADR proceedings, reductions-in-force analyses, non-compete agreements and other restrictive covenants, severance agreements, and employee manual and policy reviews, provides day-to-day counseling on hiring, discipline, termination and other employment related issues, and generally works with employers to avoid and resolve employment related legal issues.
David’s prior experience includes practicing in the Phoenix office of a national labor and employment law firm and serving as general counsel for two Arizona-based companies: a national home furnishings Internet retail company and a large, well-known Arizona bedding retailer. During his time with these companies, David was responsible for all legal matters, including counseling management on human resources related legal issues, reviewing all contracts, policies and procedures, conducting training seminars for company supervisors, and managing all claims and litigation. He also managed the day-to-day operations of the human resources department, the benefits and insurance programs, and real estate operations. Prior to his in-house counsel experience, David practiced as an employment lawyer and business litigator at several large law firms in Chicago.
David earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 1997, where he served as Editor at Large for the Loyola University Chicago Law Journal and won the West Publishing Outstanding Scholastic Achievement Book Award. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Government from Colby College in Waterville, Maine. David serves as an advisor to The Hertel Report, a health care industry professional organization, is a founding director for local non-profit Debbie Gaby Charities, and is a two-term past president of the Sandra Day O’Connor American Inn of Court. David is also an active member of the Fiesta Bowl Committee, and was honored to receive its 2014-15 George Leonard Rookie of the Year award.
