Christopher C. Rulon

Senior Counsel

Chris resolves disputes practically and economically for clients in the construction and energy industries. He also advises clients about drafting and negotiating construction and commercial contracts, and about employment matters.

Chris is an experienced litigator and trial lawyer. He has successfully handled complex construction and commercial disputes, personal injury and death cases, catastrophic property damage incidents such as fires and hurricanes, and employment discrimination suits. He has significant experience defending clients against civil and criminal investigation and enforcement by agencies such as the EPA, PHMSA, FERC, STB, and OSHA, and in assisting clients faced with environmental contamination claims. In addition, Chris helps clients either avoid disputes in the first instance or to be pre-positioned for the best possible resolution once they arise. He does so by advising clients during contract negotiations about allocating risk between the parties, how to achieve regulatory compliance, and ensuring there is suitable insurance coverage.

Chris’ principal clients are owners, contractors, and design professionals in the construction space, and refiners, pipeline and terminal operators, and electric utilities in the energy industry.

Before joining the firm, Chris was the chief in-house attorney for dispute, environmental, and employment matters at a midstream energy company and a partner at a national law firm.
