Lucius Vassar Joins Clark Hill PLC
DETROIT, MI
– Today, Clark Hill PLC announced the addition of Lucius A. Vassar to its Government and Public Affairs Practice Group.
Vassar brings to the firm more than 15 years of extensive government relations and legislative affairs experience. Prior to joining Clark Hill, he devoted six years of service and leadership to the City of
Detroit
where he served in a variety of leadership positions.
Most recently, Vassar served as the Director of the Detroit Workforce Development Department, Michigan’s largest workforce agency with an annual budget of more than $70 million. Prior to that, he served as
Detroit
’s Chief Administrative Officer, where he directly advised the Mayor, while developing and implementing major policy initiatives at all levels of government.
Vassar also served the City of
Detroit
as Director of Corporate and Civic Affairs where he was responsible for the development and management of partnerships with various corporations, civic organizations and foundations throughout
Southeast Michigan
. His efforts in economic development led to the retention of a major corporation and hundreds of jobs within the city. Vassar has served on many boards and commissions throughout southeast
Michigan
including the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, Downtown Development Authority, Arts League of Michigan, City Connect Detroit, Detroit Police Foundation and the Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Prior to his leadership roles with the City of
Detroit
, Vassar worked four years as a multi-client lobbyist with one of
Michigan
’s largest firms, building extensive experience in lobbying and governmental affairs. In this role, he represented a vast array of international corporations, trade and professional associations before the Governor of the State of Michigan, Michigan Legislature and several municipal governments.
Vassar also brings to Clark Hill PLC more than eight years of public sector experience in the Michigan Senate. While in the Senate, he served as Chief of Staff for the Senate Democratic Floor Leader, where he forged valuable partnerships across the aisle. In addition, Vassar has also had direct involvement in the crafting, revision and implementation of several key state policy initiatives including the Michigan Gaming Act and the Neighborhood Enterprise Zone Act. Vassar has also served as staff liaison to several senate committees including the Judiciary, Finance and Local Government Committees.
Vassar earned his B.A. in Psychology from
Michigan
State
University
and his Juris Doctorate
Cum Laude
from Michigan State University College of Law. He is a devoted father of two amazing daughters.
