Ken von Schaumburg Named National Law Journal Energy & Environmental Trailblazer
Washington, D.C. – Kenneth von Schaumburg, a Member in Clark Hill’s Washington, D.C. office, and Chair of the firm’s national Environment, Energy & Natural Resources practice, has been named an Energy & Environmental Trailblazer by The National Law Journal.
Von Schaumburg was selected from hundreds of nominations for this recognition. Each nominee is vetted to discover what has driven them to success. In this case, Ken’s recognition stems from his representation of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission. Ken most recently served as their lead litigation counsel for the recovery of natural resource damages as part of the Multi-District litigation In Re: Oil Spill by the Oil Rig “Deepwater Horizon” in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20, 2010, before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Ken’s participation in complex multi-party negotiations helped lead to the unprecedented settlement and historic Consent Decree ending the protracted litigation and saving tax-payers millions in litigation related costs and fees. Most significantly, according to the US Department of Justice, the total settlement of $18.7 Billion represents the largest recovery from a single entity in US history.
Prior to joining Clark Hill, von Schaumburg served as the Deputy General Counsel to the US Environmental Protection Agency during the administration of President George W. Bush. While serving at the US EPA, Ken provided advice on a variety of legal issues to the Administrator and senior officials in the formulation of the Agency’s positions and policies. He also managed a diverse portfolio of Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act, Toxic Substance Control Act, and Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act issues. Ken also handled matters before the United States Supreme Court and federal appellate courts on behalf of the Agency.
