Former General Counsel to Illinois Governor Joins Clark Hill Chicago
CHICAGO, IL – John F. Schomberg has joined Clark Hill Chicago as a Senior Counsel in Clark Hill’s Government & Public Affairs Practice Group. Schomberg has over 15 years of experience as a high-level government attorney and litigator, representing and providing strategic counsel to private and public corporations, organizations, and individuals.

Schomberg principally focuses his practice on complex state and local regulatory and litigation matters, regulatory compliance, and investigations. He has also responded to, overseen, conducted, and represented witnesses in all levels of government investigations, including working with U.S. Attorney’s Offices, the FBI, the SEC, and federal, state, and local inspectors general. Having previously managed and directed legal experts across state government, Schomberg is a seasoned problem solver and crisis manager, able to tap into and manage the right attorneys to address any issue.
Prior to joining Clark Hill, Schomberg served as General Counsel to Illinois Governor Pat Quinn from 2010 to 2015. As the lead attorney for the fifth largest state with over 50,000 employees and a $55+ billion budget, he managed several hundred attorneys at the State’s agencies, boards, and commissions. He advised the Governor, his staff, and his cabinet on a broad range of areas, including compliance, procurement, licensing, gaming, lottery, transportation, banking, financial institutions, healthcare, public safety, economic development, personnel, labor relations, transactions, and litigation. As General Counsel to the Governor, he negotiated transactions, including collective bargaining and lottery agreements, and worked closely with the Illinois Office of the Attorney General in managing the State’s major litigation. Schomberg also negotiated legislation and regularly testified in front of the General Assembly, including in the areas of procurement, gaming, public/private partnerships, collective bargaining, grants, and group health.
