– Clark Hill members Joseph Bonventre, Thomas MacFarlane and Thomas Sweeney have qualified in the top 7 percent of more than 10,600 wealth managers in Michigan to receive the Five Star Wealth Manager Award by Five Star Professional. Nominees were evaluated on 10 objective criteria, including one- and five-year client retention rate, number of client households served, and non-institutional discretionary and/or nondiscretionary client assets administered. They will be recognized in the June issues of

HOUR Detroit

and

dBusiness

magazines.

MacFarlane and Sweeney, both residents of Clark Hill’s Birmingham office, and Bonventre, of Clark Hill’s Detroit office, are members of Clark Hill’s Estate Planning & Probate practice group. Each has been included in the

Best Lawyers in America

and have substantial experience in estate planning, tax planning and probate matters.

Bonventre advises individuals and members of closely held businesses on traditional and sophisticated estate planning techniques available to reduce their federal income tax, gift tax, estate tax and generation skipping transfer tax liabilities. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and the American College of Tax Counsel, and he was named in Michigan’s top 100 “Super Lawyers.”

MacFarlane is the practice group leader of Clark Hill’s Personal Legal Services. He counsels clients on the various wealth preservation strategies which are available to high net worth individuals and also is frequently asked to represent beneficiaries or fiduciaries in complex estate contests and trust disputes. MacFarlane is a Fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and has been included in

multiple times.

Sweeney is a member and Vice-Chair of the Council of the Probate and Estate Planning Section of the Michigan Bar Association and has served as Chair of the Taxation Committee of the Oakland County Bar Association. He has extensive experience in Federal and State taxation with particular focus on estate and gift taxation, and fiduciary and individual income taxation, including planning, return preparation, negotiation with tax authorities and tax litigation.
