CHICAGO, IL – Clark Hill Attorneys Ray J. Koenig III and MacKenzie A. Hyde will present at the 30th Annual Governor’s Conference on Aging. The event is co-sponsored by the Senior Health Insurance Program and Illinois Department of Insurance. The event will take place on December 7-9, 2011 at the Marriott Chicago Downtown.
Koenig and Hyde will speak on “Dealing with Decision-Makers for Disabled Adults: Responsibilities and Rights of Agents, Guardians, and Health Care Surrogates.” This session will examine the three types of decision-makers Illinois law recognizes to make decisions on behalf of Disabled Adults: agents, guardians, and health care surrogates. Before care providers can successfully work with these decision-makers they need to:
1. Confirm that the decision-maker is legally entitled to make the decision at issue; and
2. Know the extent of a decision-maker’s authority and what standards he or she should apply when making decisions on behalf of a disabled adult.
