PITTSBURGH, PA – Clark Hill Attorneys David G. Ries and Elizabeth Collura will present at The Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law on Friday, January 16, 2015 on “Social Media in the Courts – Privacy, Discovery, Admissibility and the Role of Digital Forensics.”

Social media has grown explosively in the past decade, with over a billion users worldwide today. Services such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and others provide instantaneous information about what's happening and what people are thinking and doing, often including real-time videos, photos, and geo-location information. But at what risk do such opportunities come?

This seminar, to be moderated by attorney David G. Ries, will explore the civil and criminal legal ramifications of social media’s pervasiveness from the perspectives of the law, law enforcement and digital forensics. Speakers include:

Ries focuses his practice in the areas of environmental, commercial and technology law and litigation. He has used computers in his practice since the early 1980s and has more than 39 years of experience in these areas and has frequently lectured and written on them for legal, educational, and professional groups. He has recently addressed in his practice and speaking such current issues as information security and privacy, environmental site remediation, challenges to penalties, admissibility of expert opinions, e-discovery and environmental forensics.

Collura is experienced with the multifaceted intersection of social media and law. She has handled legal matters involving internet defamation and social media discovery/privacy issues. Collura is a frequent presenter in conferences concerning social media, both locally and nationally.
