The blog post precedes the presentation Cessante and Hoeppner will give on “Human Resource Record Keeping: Legal Requirements” for the Michigan Chamber of Commerce on March 10th in Lansing and March 11th in Novi.  Attendees will learn how to create, maintain and utilize critical employment documents, including employment applications, job descriptions, leave of absence paperwork, and disciplinary documentation. Human Resource professionals will also learn how to structure and manage record retention and preservation policies to avoid and defend litigation, and avoid and minimize statutory fines and penalties.

Cessante is a member in Clark Hill's Labor & Employment Practice Group. He represents employers in all types of labor and employment litigation matters in both state and federal court. He has also represented employers before numerous administrative tribunals, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department of Labor and the National Labor Relations Board.  Cessante has been named in the Best Lawyers in America in the area of labor and employment law since 2010.  He has also been recognized as a Super Lawyer in the area of employment litigation defense by Michigan Super Lawyers since 2010.

Hoeppner is an associate in Clark Hill's Labor & Employment Practice Group.  Hoeppner represents employers in all aspects of labor and employment law, including litigation and preventative counseling.  Hoeppner has defended employers in federal and state courts and before federal and state administrative agencies in matters involving employment discrimination, retaliatory discharge and wage and hour claims.  She also regularly counsels employers on personnel matters including drafting employment and independent contractor agreements, personnel policies and handbooks, managing leaves of absence, and grievances and terminations.  She also acts as a corporate trainer and investigator for employers.  Hoeppner has been named a Rising Star in the area of employment litigation defense by Michigan Super Lawyers since 2012.
