Clark Hill Attorney Thomas F. Sweeney to Present at 49th Annual Probate and Estate Planning Institute

– Clark Hill attorney Thomas F. Sweeney will speak at the 49
th
Annual Probate and Estate Planning Institute.
Mr. Sweeney will present “Intentionally Defective Grantor Trusts”.
The conference, which is held twice each year, will take place at the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme, MI May 14-16 and at the Inn at St. John’s in Plymouth, MI June 12-13.
Thomas F. Sweeney
has extensive experience in Federal and State taxation with particular focus on estate and gift taxation, fiduciary and individual income taxation, including planning, return preparation, negotiation with tax authorities and tax litigation. He is actively involved in the planning and administration of revocable and irrevocable trusts, estates, and family limited partnerships and companies including the design and implementation of estate plans, including tax, probate avoidance and investment strategy planning, as well as probate and non-probate administration of estates, trusts, conservatorships and guardianships, trust and estate dispute resolution and other trust and estate fiduciary services.
Mr. Sweeney is also actively involved in business planning, including the organization of business entities, consultation with business owners and officers regarding operational aspects of business entities, drafting of business agreements, and other related services involved in the design and operation of business entities.
He presently is a member of the Council of the Probate and Estate Planning Section of the Michigan Bar Association and has served as Chair of the Taxation Committee of the Oakland County Bar Association. He has frequently spoken at Institute of Continuing Legal Education programs and has been a guest lecturer at the University of Michigan Law School. He is an adjunct professor in the Wayne State University Law School teaching estate and gift taxation. His articles on trust and tax matters have appeared in the Probate and Estate Planning Journal. He has been included in

since 2003.
Mr. Sweeney is active in civic and community organizations. He served on the City of Birmingham, Michigan Charter Review Commission, and is a current member of the Baldwin Public Library Board, Birmingham, Michigan, previously serving as President for four terms. He also previously served on the Board of Directors of the Community House Association (Birmingham, Michigan) from 1990-1998, and as President from 1993-1995. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Birmingham Rotary Club Endowment Fund, Inc. He also has served on numerous other charitable and community boards over the past 25 years.
