Clark Hill Attorney Scott Cruz Discussed Sexual Harassment Prevention on Fox 32 Good Day Chicago
CHICAGO, IL – Scott Cruz, Senior Counsel in Clark Hill’s Labor and Employment Practice Group, recently appeared on local Fox 32’s Good Day Chicago broadcast. Scott appeared alongside Mark Strehl and Sally Schulze to discuss how companies can limit liability in the context of allegations of sexual harassment during holiday parties.
“What would limit liability, as an individual and also as a company?” asked Mark Strehl. Scott Cruz replied, “Companies have to make sure that employees understand that you have to be respectful and professional not only at work, but at functions – particularly holiday parties. Know who your audience is. Certain things that we may feel are appropriate, others may feel are inappropriate. It’s good to be cautious.”
When asked by Sally Schulze if people are learning their lessons, Scott added, “It starts from the top and goes to the bottom. If employees see that upper management is not condoning that type of behavior – you don’t want to have a web of toxicity in the workplace – people will understand that and take that message to heart.”
