Clark Hill Attorney Richard H. Chapman Honored With Firm’s 2015 Mentor of the Year Award

July 31, 2015

Chicago, IL – Clark Hill’s Leadership Forum recently recognized Chicago Member Richard Chapman as the Mentor of the Year at the firm’s 2015 Retreat.

Chapman was one of the founding members of the Chicago office, and received multiple nominations for Mentor of the Year.  His commitment to the development of associates and senior attorneys is second to none. Recently, he has started a pilot program with the Chicago Litigation group in which members, senior attorneys, and associates meet on a monthly basis to discuss their business development efforts and ways to improve.  As described in the nominations, “Rich is always willing to meet with younger attorneys and answer questions… he is a great person and mentor,” and “he helps young attorneys with more foreign components of the job like business development, and is always available to meet and provide great advice.”

Associates in the Chicago office describe Chapman as a father figure and the glue that keeps everything together. They also said that is easy to see that he genuinely cares about everyone. An example of that is his devotion to the Patricia Peggs Adult Woman’s Foundation (started after our colleague Patricia Peggs passed away), and by the fact that he ran a marathon in her memory.   No matter what is going on in his life, he is always selfless and makes the development and success of his younger colleagues a priority.

The Leadership Forum's Mission is to support the professional goals of the Firm's associates and senior attorneys by offering opportunities and programming designed to enhance and maximize professional and educational development. The Leadership Forum will foster a positive environment to share common interests and ideas; to heighten awareness and appreciation of professional, firm, social and community responsibilities; to inspire creative and leadership skills; and to prepare attorneys for membership.

Chapman is a member of Clark Hill’s Litigation Practice Group.  He has more than 32 years of successful experience as a leading trial lawyer concentrating in business and employment litigation in federal, state and bankruptcy courts, as well as in arbitration, throughout the United States. Richard has litigated cases in Illinois state, federal and bankruptcy courts, as well as courts in California, Texas, North Carolina, Florida and Michigan. He has successfully prosecuted, argued and won appeals in the Illinois Appellate Court, the United States Courts of Appeals for the Seventh and Ninth Circuits, as well as the California Court of Appeals.
