February 9, 2012

CHICAGO, IL

– Clark Hill Attorney Ray J. Koenig III and Circuit Court of Cook County Judge Celia Louise Gamrath will present “Civil Unions and Dissolutions: From Love to Civil Union to Divorce” on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM at the Center on Halsted (3656 North Halsted).

The presentation will focus on providing information to community members about the mechanics of a civil union, its legal meaning, recognition of civil unions, and dissolution of civil unions.

In June 2010, the Illinois Supreme Court appointed Celia Louise Gamrath as a Circuit Judge of Cook County, after a thorough vetting process and universal high marks. Since that time, Judge Gamrath has presided over dozens of misdemeanor criminal and civil trials in the Municipal and Domestic Relations Divisions, including orders of protection, DUI, child custody, child support and divorce trials. She was also one of the first judges in Illinois to perform and dissolve civil unions.

Judge Gamrath has a strong record of accomplishments in teaching law school, publishing articles and chapters in legal treatises, and lecturing on a wide array of legal topics. She has a bimonthly column in Chicago Lawyer magazine and was chosen by the Illinois Supreme Court to be on the elite faculty of the statewide Judicial Education Conference. Judge Gamrath has earned a reputation of being fair, honest, hard-working, even tempered and independent, and is well respected for her community service. Judge Gamrath is currently running for election to the 8th judicial subcircuit (Chiola vacancy).
