Michael W. Matthews

is an associate in the Healthcare Practice Group of Clark Hill’s Birmingham office and concentrates his practice in the healthcare industry.

Prior to his legal career, Michael served in executive roles for hospitals and long-term care facilities, including the Chief Executive Officer for two different hospitals and as long-term care Administrator.

Michael counsels clients in numerous aspects of healthcare law. He regularly advises a variety of healthcare providers, including hospitals, health systems, physician groups, behavioral health providers, long term care providers, home health agencies and other healthcare related entities on business, transactional, and regulatory matters such as the acquisition and merger of physician medical practices, preparation and review of hospital, physician and other provider contracts, preparation and review of provider policy and procedures, professional services agreements, and general contracts. His day-to-day work also involves counseling clients on corporate organizational matters, corporate compliance, board of director/trustee organization and governance, Fraud and Abuse/Stark opinions, obtaining and maintaining tax exemption, and general physician contracting matters, including recruitment and employment arrangements.
