Clark Hill Attorney Matthew T. Smith to Present at the Associated General Contractors of Michigan “Risk of Design Liability” Program on April 25, 2017

Lansing, MI – Clark Hill attorney Matthew T. Smith will present in a panel at the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Michigan “The Risk of Design Liability All Too Often Lurking in Projects and Specifications… And How to Manage The Risk” program on April 25, 2017, at EMU Livonia.

The program will begin with a review and summary of the contract terms and conditions that can saddle construction managers and even traditional design-bid-build contractors with liability for design defects. Quickly turning focus to the project plans and specifications, and mid-course corrections, that can also leave such companies liable for design errors or omissions. In-house lawyers and risk managers rarely have either the expertise or the time to review plans or specifications, and they cannot be there to advise the field every time a client “merely” asks for “a little help” in dealing with design omissions, or unforeseen site conditions.

Smith, along with panelists Roger Donley, Director of Risk Management of Barton Malow, and Jay Smith, Executive Vice President of The Christman Company, will identify and develop practical steps to reduce or avoid risk as well as the practices, protocols, and procedures that can help contractors.
