Clark Hill Attorney Matthew T. Smith Honored With Firm’s 2015 Pro Bono Award
Lansing, MI – Clark Hill attorney Matthew T. Smith was honored with the firm’s 2015 Pro Bono Award by the Clark Hill Pro Bono Committee on July 23, 2015. Smith is a veteran having served as a Marine before graduating from law school and later as a Judge Advocate in the Marine Corps. Since leaving the Marines, he has performed many hundreds of hours of pro bono work on behalf of his fellow veterans.
- Veterans Court – He has been a mentor in the Veterans Court in Ingham County, Michigan, since its inception more than five years ago, where he has helped many veterans solve legal issues and learn how to cope with assimilation into regular society.
- WAI-IAM, Inc., an organization operating a house for recovering addicts and alcoholics. He provides legal assistance to this organization in addition to being a regular volunteer.
- He serves as General Counsel for ARSR, Inc., a local organization that operates halfway houses for recovering alcoholics and addicts.
- And, although not legal work, he also leads a Men’s Group that meets at Clark Hill’s Lansing office each Tuesday night where he mentors a number of men through difficult times.
Smith is a member of Clark Hill’s Litigation Practice Group, and specializes in commercial and construction related matters. He is experienced in bankruptcy, creditor’s rights, real estate and civil litigation. He is among the 5 percent of Michigan attorneys selected for inclusion in Michigan Super Lawyers 2012, 2013, and 2014, an honor reserved for those lawyers who have shown excellence in practice.
