Clark Hill Attorney Mark F. Nowak Named Recipient of the 2013 Clark Hill Pro Bono Award

PITTSBURGH, PA –

Clark Hill Attorney Mark F. Nowak, a Member in the firm’s Pittsburgh office, has been named the recipient of the 2013 Clark Hill Pro Bono Award.

Nowak, an attorney with Thorp Reed & Armstrong prior to the firm’s merger with Clark Hill in May of this year, has been with the firm for over 25 years. Nowak was instrumental in developing and maintaining Thorp Reed’s pro bono program and in creating a culture that has fostered pro bono service and community involvement. He served as the firm’s Coordinator for the Lawyers on Loan pro bono program, providing a direct commitment of legal services to the Neighborhood Legal Services Association (NLSA). With the NLSA, Nowak has served as President, on the Budget Committee, as a Board Member, and on the Personnel and Pro Bono Committees. In addition, he is a past Member of the Allegheny County Bar Association’s Public Service Subcommittee, its Judiciary Committee, and its ADR Committee, among others. Nowak’s community involvement includes serving as a Member of the Allegheny County Human Relations Commission, on a City/County Cooperative Services Task Force, and on a Pittsburgh Clean City Committee as well as on the boards of Prism Health Services, Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh, Lifeline of Southwestern Pennsylvania, and Venture Outdoors.

Nowak performs numerous hours of pro bono work himself in service of the arts, of those in need of protection from abuse, and in the advancement of other worthy causes. In the past year alone, he has dedicated over 200 pro bono hours to Contemplative Outreach Ltd., a non-profit international ecumenical organization.

Nowak is a civil trial lawyer with a concentration in construction litigation. He is AV rated, ranked one of the Top Rated Lawyers in Construction Law, listed in The Best Lawyers in America (2006-2012), and has also been named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer (2005-2012). Nowak currently serves as the Solicitor for The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority and as Clark Hill’s General Counsel.
