Clark Hill Attorney Kurt M. Graham to Present “Legal Aspects of Managing Volunteers – Protecting Your Program”

– Clark Hill attorney Kurt M. Graham will present “Legal Aspects of Managing Volunteers – Protecting Your Program” during the Volunteer Management Association of West Michigan’s (VMAWM) Winter Workshop. Kurt M. Graham is a Senior Attorney in Clark Hill’s Labor and Employment Practice Group and is located in the Grand Rapids office.

Kurt advises employers in avoiding liability under various state and federal employment laws. He has significant experience counseling and defending employers in labor relations matters such as the administration of collective bargaining agreements, grievance arbitrations, union organizing campaigns and elections, and unfair labor practice charges. Kurt has represented employers before numerous administrative agencies throughout the United States, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Michigan Department of Civil Rights, U.S. Department of Labor, National Labor Relations Board, Michigan Employee Relations Commission, Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency, Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth – Wage Hour Division, Texas Workforce Commission Civil Rights Division, Illinois Department of Human Rights, and Chicago Office for Civil Rights.

In addition to his labor relations experience, Kurt also counsels employers in day-to-day employment matters such as drafting employment policies and agreements, FMLA/ADA compliance, employee discipline, military leave, and reductions-in-force pursuant to the WARN Act. Kurt also has substantial experience handling MIOSHA/OSHA citation appeals, and counseling employers with respect to MIOSHA/OSHA inspections.

Kurt has lectured on topics such as union avoidance and campaigns, OSHA/MIOSHA inspections, investigation and documenting employee misconduct, telecommuting, and how to effectively manage in a union environment. He is a Chapter Editor of The Developing Labor Law, and a Contributor to How Arbitration Works. When in law school, he served as an Assistant Editor, and Note and Comment Editor of the Wayne Law Review. Kurt currently serves as a Board Member for the Michigan State University Club of West Michigan, D.A. Blodgett for Children, and is also on the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Advisory Council.
