Clark Hill Attorney Joseph B. Urban to Moderate Three Panels at Annual Conference for Michigan Association for Public School Academies

BIRMINGHAM, MI

– Clark Hill attorney Joseph B. Urban, of the Clark Hill Education Law Group, will moderate three panels at the annual MAPSA conference. First, Joe will moderate a panel designed to give new charter schools guidance on compliance issues. Joe will engage other Clark Hill attorneys in discussion about how to best search for services, how to seek financing for short- and long- term obligations and how to construct the appropriate labor environment under the current legal frameworks. This discussion will take place on November 1 from 2:45 to 4:00 p.m. On November 2, from 2:45 to 4:00 p.m., Joe will moderate a discussion on best practices for board governance with Delores Tripp of The Wellness Group and Ira Rutherford of the Rutherford Group. Both Delores and Ira have experience with charter schools undergoing transition and the challenges engendered by that transition. Also on November 2 from 4:00 to 4:30 p.m., Joe will discuss the impact of the Ed Jobs bill upon public school academies. Joining Joe will be Ann VanderLaan of Clark Hill and Errol Goldman of Goldman & Associates, P.C..


Joseph B. Urban

is a member in Clark Hill’s Birmingham office, where he concentrates his practice in the areas of municipal finance, education law, and real estate law.

Joe has represented Michigan school district and municipal clients, as well as private entities providing financing to these organizations for over a decade. He has extensive experience in municipal and school finance, regularly serving as bond and underwriter’s counsel for school districts, public school academies, and other governmental units as well as counseling them in the acquisition and disposition of real property.

With respect to education law, Joe regularly counsels school districts and public school academies in the operational issues involved in administering educational organizations, including compliance with the Revised School Code, the Open Meetings Act, the Freedom of Information Act, and other laws governing public bodies.

Joe is an adjunct professor at Oakland University’s School of Education and Professional Development.
