Jennifer M. Buckley is a member of Clark Hill’s Employment Law Practice Group. Jennifer has defended employers for over 25 years in state and federal court actions brought by employees and former employees. In addition to defending discrimination, wrongful discharge, wage and hour and related tort claims, she is also experienced in defending actions brought under Michigan’s Sales Representative Commissions Act and pursuing and defending claims pertaining to restrictive covenants. She has represented employers in administrative hearings before state and federal agencies and before arbitrators.
Jennifer creates and revises employment policies including employee manuals, applications, sexual and other unlawful harassment policies, drug testing and FMLA/absenteeism policies. She has advised employers regarding issues related to wage and hour compliance, EEO compliance, reductions in force, plant closings and mass layoffs, and has prepared necessary notices and severance packages.
She has lectured in areas of employment law at seminars, for companies, and for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education, the American Society of Employers and the Human Resources Association of Greater Detroit. She is the author of several articles on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) which were published in TRIAD, the official Journal of the Michigan Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, Inc. (Vol. 3, Nos. 7 and 8 and Vol. 4, No. 1), and she has written and co-authored other published articles on employment issues.
Jennifer has represented employers in several states in a number of different industries, including manufacturing employers, those in the service industry, health industry, staffing and leasing employers, construction and environmental services companies, to name a few. She has also represented a number of non-profit organizations.
Jennifer has achieved the highest “AV” rating by her peers through Martindale-Hubbell Law Firm Directory. She was named one of the Top Lawyers of 2010 by dbusiness Magazine, a Michigan Super Lawyer in 2010 and 2011, and one of the Best Lawyers in America in the 2012 edition. Jennifer is a Board Member of the American Society of Employers and the YMCA Camping Services Board. She is also a member of the Human Resources Committee of the Children’s Center in Detroit, Michigan and is on the Legal Affairs Committee of the Human Resources Association of Greater Detroit, Society of Human Resource Management.
