Clark Hill Attorney Brian D. Shekell Honored as a "2015 Up & Coming Lawyer" by Michigan Lawyers Weekly
DETROIT, MI – Clark Hill attorney Brian D. Shekell was named an "Up & Coming Lawyer" by Michigan Lawyers Weekly. Thirty honorees were selected by a committee based on who have established a name for themselves, go above and beyond, and display the ambition, drive, determination and accomplishments that set them apart among their peers — in their first 10 years in practice.
Shekell's commitment to the legal profession extends beyond his work at Clark Hill. Shekell is extremely active with numerous committees and with civic involvement in the State Bar of Michigan. In October 2015, Shekell was appointed Commissioner-at-large to the State Bar of Michigan Board of Commissioners by the Michigan Supreme Court. Shekell was also appointed to the State Bar of Michigan’s 21st Century Practice Task Force committee on Building a 21st Century Practice. In that role, Shekell has worked to analyze what opportunities exist to prepare recent law school graduates to practice law and offer suggestions for successfully bridging the gap from law school to law practice. Shekell also serves as a proctor for the Michigan Board of Law Examiners.
Shekell is also the President of the Federalist Society, Michigan Lawyers Chapter. As one of the youngest Federalist Society Chapter President in the country, Shekell works alongside members of the state and federal judiciary to promote the ideal that it is the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it ought to be. During Shekell's tenure as President, the Michigan chapter has seen a large increase in its membership, including with recent law school graduates. Shekell's focus on encouraging new lawyers to take on an active role in the organization has not only increased the chapter's reputation nationwide, it has resulted in numerous job opportunities for recent graduates.
Shekell also remains active with his alma mater, Wayne State University School of Law and regularly serves as a guest judge and coach for the moot court program.
Shekell is an associate with the Labor and Employment Practice Group in Clark Hill’s Detroit office.
