Clark Hill Attorney Barbara A. Ruga to Present at Michigan Negotiators Association Fall Conference October 1, 2014
Grand Rapids, MI– Clark Hill Attorney Barbara A. Ruga will present twice at the Michigan Negotiators Association (MNA) Fall Conference on October 1, 2014. Ruga’s presentations “Discuss How Schools Maintain and Enhance Quality Staff and Thus Teaching Through Best Practices in Teacher Discipline and Evaluation” and “How to Investigate, Document and Comply With the School Code Requirements for Teacher Evaluations Which Will Also Prepare Districts for Using the Section 1248 Layoff Criteria” are part of the MNA’s pre-conference which will provide an in-depth and updated view of prohibited subjects of bargaining and the need for board adopted policies.
MNA is a non-profit association for professional negotiators and contract administrators. Membership in MNA helps individuals network and share information, obtain education, training and support, and develop management skills in negotiations and contract administration.
Ruga is a member in Clark Hill’s Education and Municipal Practice Group as well as the Labor & Employment Law Practice Group. For more than 35 years, she has been advising and counseling public school districts and businesses on a wide variety of labor law and employment issues. Ruga has extensive experience negotiating teacher contracts in a context of scarce resources. She has also handled numerous unfair labor practice charges, fact-findings and related employment litigation. She advocates for prevention through education, and to that end specializes in employee training programs.
