CHICAGO, IL –
Clark Hill PLC attorney Aurora Abella-Austriaco will be presented the Sister Margaret Traxler Award by the Institute of Women Today (IWT) on Thursday, September 26. She is being honored, along with Cheryl Lynn Bruce, acclaimed actress, playwright, and director, as “two of Chicago’s most accomplished women and distinguished humanitarians”. Founded in 1974 by Sister Margaret Traxler, IWT’s mission is twofold: to provide transitional housing for homeless women and their children and to provide experiences that empower, mentor, and support women so they can achieve their highest potential. IWT operates Maria Shelter, a 50-bed transitional shelter for homeless women and their children, and the Vincennes Senior Center, which offers senior citizens a place to socialize, enjoy a nutritious meal, and learn new skills. Both facilities are located in the Englewood community of Chicago, one of the most economically deprived areas of Chicago.
Austriaco concentrates her practice in the areas of commercial and real estate litigation, construction litigation, mechanic’s liens, mortgage foreclosure, mortgage fraud, title insurance claims and other special chancery remedy cases. Austriaco recently completed her tenure as President of the Chicago Bar Association, one of the oldest and largest metropolitan bar associations in the country with over 22,000 member lawyers, and continues to serve on its Board of Managers and as its Interbar Relations representative. She serves on the board of the Chicago Bar Foundation and previously served on the board of the Center for Conflict Resolution (CCR) for five years and as its vice president for two years. She was elected as the first female and minority president of the Illinois Real Estate Lawyers’ Association (IRELA), an organization of approximately 1,500 real estate lawyers throughout Illinois. Austriaco also served as board member of the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois (WBAI).
