Clark Hill Announces Addition of Daniel Simon to Environment, Energy & Natural Resources Practice in Washington, D.C.
Washington, D.C. – Clark Hill today announced the addition of Daniel Simon as senior counsel to its growing national Environment, Energy & Natural Resources (EENR) practice in the nation’s capital. Simon was formerly in Stroock & Stroock & Lavan’s Energy and Project Finance practice in D.C.
“Dan is a great addition to the Clark Hill’s Environment, Energy and Natural Resources practice, “ said Charles Spies, Member-in-Charge of Clark Hill’s D.C. office. “His experience on energy regulatory issues involving the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and state utility commissions will expand the quality and range of services which the firm is able to provide to our clients.”
Simon’s practice focuses on energy regulatory issues involving the FERC and state utility commissions. His experience includes advising clients in the electric power sector on power transactions, regional transmission organizations (RTO) and independent system operator (ISO) market rules, as well as providing consultation and advice on power plant development and acquisition projects, with a focus on renewable energy. He also negotiates power purchase agreements (PPA’s) and interconnection agreements, as well as finance arrangements and project acquisitions.
“In a time of significant regulatory change affecting our clients, I am pleased to be joining a team with significant skills in the energy and environmental space,” said Simon. “The firm is committed to helping its clients achieve regulatory compliance and affordable energy, and the firm’s international reach provides an exceptional platform for my practice.”
Simon also represents large natural gas consumers and shippers regarding FERC and state utility policies in a range of transactions, and advises on regulatory requirements for hydroprojects.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Law, Simon previously served as a trial attorney in FERC’s Office of Administrative Litigation, where he litigated many regulatory disputes related to the Western electricity crisis of 2000-2001 and allegations of energy market manipulation by Enron and others.
“Dan has a very strong background in both government service and private practice in energy law,” said Rod E. Williamson, Clark Hill’s EENR Practice Group Director. “He will be a great asset for our clients working with our deep bench of EENR attorneys across the country, particularly in matters involving federal and state energy regulation.”
Clark Hill’s EENR lawyers have decades of counseling and litigation experience in all areas of energy and environmental law. The EENR practice represents manufacturing, transportation, retail, oil and gas, mining, chemical, and recycling companies, as well as financial institutions, insurance companies, real estate management firms and municipalities in energy and environmental transactions, litigation and regulatory counseling.
“With Dan’s addition, as well as the firm’s recent merger with Texas’ Strasburger & Price, Clark Hill’s environment and energy law practice is quickly becoming one of the largest practices in the country,” said Ken von Schaumburg, Co-Chair of the firm’s Environment, Energy and Natural Resources practice.
