Clark Hill Adds Top-Tier Chicago Energy Group, Expanding Clark Hill's National Energy Presence
CHICAGO, IL – Christopher J. Townsend and Christopher N. Skey have joined Clark Hill’s expanding Chicago office as members in the Environment, Energy & Natural Resources Practice Group.
“We are thrilled to add Townsend and Skey to our Chicago office,” Clark Hill Chicago Managing Member Ray J. Koenig III said. “We look forward to the insight and talent they bring, and their extensive energy experience will significantly augment our ability to serve our clients' need for firsthand knowledge of these complex issues.”
“Clark Hill now is one of the only Am Law 200 firms with the expertise necessary to tackle today’s sophisticated energy matters on behalf of large energy users from multiple offices throughout the country.” said Ken von Schaumburg, leader of Clark Hill’s national Environment, Energy and National Resources Practice Group. “Townsend and Skey bring a significant client base to the firm, adding to our already established national energy practice,” he added. “Their extensive experience advising large energy users about energy-related issues will also greatly benefit our existing clients, and will set us apart from the competition at a time when the energy industry is undergoing fundamental structural changes.”
Townsend and Skey handle complex energy matters on behalf of industrial, commercial, and governmental energy users, competitive energy suppliers, energy cooperatives, transmission companies, municipalities, trade groups, developers, lenders, building and facility owners, data centers, “green” energy suppliers, and other energy market participants.
Townsend noted, “We were attracted to Clark Hill because of the firm’s well-deserved reputation for outstanding client service and its historic accomplishments in representing large energy users. Our practice is unique in the energy industry – we represent entities other than the local utilities. By combining forces with the growing number of like-minded, esteemed energy attorneys at Clark Hill, we anticipate new opportunities to serve sophisticated clients affected by the on-going transformation of the energy markets, with a focus on empowering energy users and advancing opportunities for them to be treated as an energy resource, rather than just a funding source.”
Townsend and Skey have nearly four decades of combined experience advocating in regulatory and legislative forums to improve the efficiencies of the electricity and natural gas industries. On a local, state, national, and international level, they help clients address risks and opportunities associated with the on-going restructuring of the energy markets. They have been involved in a wide variety of regulatory proceedings before the Illinois Commerce Commission and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, specifically with an emphasis on matters related to restructured and competitive energy markets. Their Energy practice consistently has been ranked by Chambers USA®, and Townsend is a two-time recipient of the prestigious Lexology Client Choice Award.
