Axe & Ecklund Joins Clark Hill

DETROIT, MI – The attorneys and staff of the Grosse Pointe firm Axe & Ecklund, P.C. have joined Clark Hill PLC effective August 1, 2016, residing in the Detroit office.

Axe & Ecklund advises cities, counties, villages, townships and other governmental units on the best way to issue municipal bonds and notes. Developing individual ways for a municipal client to market its bonds, notes, and other debt and revenue obligations, the firm principally assists government units in raising funds by structuring the borrowings, preparing all legal documents, conducting a competitive sale, and providing its unqualified opinion on the validity and tax exemption of the bond issue.

Axe has over 50 years of experience as a practicing bond attorney and financial consultant in municipal issues. He is also a co-author of Michigan Municipal Law, a two-volume work published in 1981 by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education for the University of Michigan. In 1992, he was appointed as a member of the Permanent Adjunct Faculty of the Wayne State University Law School where he teaches public finance. In 2010, dbusiness, named Axe as a top lawyer in Public Finance and Constitutional Law. In 2012, Axe was appointed to the Michigan Judges Retirement Board by Governor Rick Snyder and in 2013, the Governor appointed Axe to the Pontiac School District Financial Review Team.

In addition to Axe, who joins as Senior Counsel, attorney Peter S. Ecklund, Jr. will also join as a Member.

Ecklund has substantial experience in municipal and legislative issues, specifically in public finance. His practice includes representing counties, cities, villages, townships, utility authorities, and tax-exempt organizations. Ecklund has been the lead attorney in over 300 municipal bond and note offerings.  He works closely with his clients in ordinance, millage, and legislative drafting.
