Robin W. Asher is a member of the firm’s Business Practice Group, practicing in the area of intellectual property. Robin focuses on patent, trademark, copyright and technology transfer matters, as well as intellectual property litigation. His intellectual property experience includes administration, management and prosecution of patent portfolios for several Fortune 500 companies; and advising in-house counsel, company management and engineers. He is also experienced in preparation and analysis of patentability, validity and infringement searches and opinions; preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications; negotiation of license agreements and technology assignments; and litigation counseling. Robin has handled intellectual property matters for a wide variety of automotive manufacturers and suppliers in the areas of automotive interiors, brake systems, engines, cable controls, air bags and restraints, manufacturing methods and equipment, and robotics. He has litigation experience in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, the State Courts of Michigan, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, the European Patent Office and Board of Patent Appeals, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi. Robin received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University in 1988. Throughout his career as an attorney, he has been actively involved in training interns in intellectual property law and patent prosecution. He is the Co-author of “Intellectual Property,” Michigan Business Formbook, ICLE, 1996-present. In 2002, Robin was selected by Crain’s Detroit Business as the recipient of its prestigious “40 Under 40” award, given to recognize outstanding professional achievement.
