Detroit, MI ù Clark Hill PLC Member Reginald M. Turner was elected President of the State Bar of Michigan for the 2002û2003 Bar year. Turner will be sworn in as president of the 34,000-member organization on September 27, during the State Bar's Annual Meeting in Grand Rapids."Reginald Turner is continuing Clark Hill's tradition of Bar leadership, which includes three State Bar Presidents in recent history," said Clark Hill CEO John Hern. Turner is a member of Clark Hill's Labor and Employment Practice Group, and was also recently elected a Vice-President of the National Bar Association. He has more than 15 years of experience in labor and employment law, and governmental relations. Turner regularly counsels clients in negotiation, drafting and administration of labor and employment contracts in the private and public sectors. He has handled a wide variety of litigation in state and federal civil courts, state and federal administrative tribunals, and grievance and interest arbitrations.
Turner is a member of the State Bar of Michigan's Labor and Employment Section Council, and has been a frequent speaker at the Section's seminars and a contributing writer to its publications. In 1999, he was a featured speaker at the National Labor Relations Board's Bernard Gottfried Labor Law Symposium.
Turner is a member of the American Arbitration Association's Michigan Employment Advisory Council, and is certified in arbitration by the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. He is also a member of the Labor and Employment Sections of the American Bar Association, the National Bar Association and the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association. In addition, he is State Membership Chair for the American Bar Association.
Turner has governmental experience at the federal, state and local levels, and he regularly counsels clients and advocates for them on important matters of public policy. In 1996û97, he completed a White House Fellowship in Washington, D.C.
Turner is Chairman of the City of Detroit Board of Ethics, and represents Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick on the Detroit Board of Education. He is a Vice Chairman of the Board of the Detroit Institute of Arts, a Director of United Way Community Services, a Director of the Greater Downtown Partnership, Inc., and a member of the Old Newsboys' Goodfellows Fund.
A 1982 graduate of Wayne State University, Turner graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1987, where he received the Irving Stenn, Jr., award for excellence in leadership. After graduation, he completed a Michigan Supreme Court clerkship with Justice Dennis Archer.
