New Statute Governing the Recording of Real Estate DocumentsJanuary 01, 1997-Under Michigan Act 459, PA 1966, new rules for the format of recordable documents are imposed, providing more specific requirements. For instruments executed before April 1, 1997, content must be in at least 8 point type, on not less than 13 lb. paper and shall not exceed 14" in length and 8.5" in width. For instruments executed after April 1, 1997: 1. Each sheet of the instrument must have a margin of at least 0.5" on all sides, but the first page must have a top margin of at least 2.5 2. The first line of the first page must display a single statement identifying the recordable event that the instrument evidences; 3. The instrument must be in 10 point type on not less than 20 lb white paper, legibly printed in black ink; and 4. The paper must be 8.5" x 11" or 14" in size, and any attachment must be 8.5" wide and not less than 11" or more than 14" long. |
